Diagnostic Reference Level Arising from Dental Panoramic Radiography
Authors
Abstract:
Introduction The present work describes a study in which, based on patient dose measurements, thermoluminescent dosimeters were used to obtain the diagnostic reference level arising from panoramic radiography. Materials and Methods Ten panoramic units and a sample of 15 patients per X-ray unit were studied. Two thermoluminescent dosimeter chips were placed on the skin surface of selected organs. Mean value of two ESDs was taken as the measured representation dose at the point of interest. Results Mean ESD on parotid glands derived from panoramic radiography was equal to 369.2 µGy. Individual patients' dose value varied from 180.1 to 470.3 µGy. Conclusion Third quartile of mean absorbed dose distribution arising from a particular examination has been adopted as diagnostic reference level. Based on this definition, local diagnostic reference level arising from panoramic radiography of the greater Khorasan province is equal to 400 µG.

full textDiagnostic reference levels at intraoral and dental panoramic examinations
Background: The aim of this study was to measure and determine diagnostic reference levels (DRLs) of programs used at intraoral and dent panoramic examinations in Kosovo. Materials and Methods: To determine DRL, were performed measurements for dose area product (DAP) at intraoral and dental panoramic radiology systems. This study has covered over 47% of X-ray units, which are in use for intraor...
full textDiagnostic reference levels in intraoral dental radiography in Korea
PURPOSE The objectives of this study were to survey the radiographic exposure parameters, to measure the patient doses for intraoral dental radiography nationwide, and thus to establish the diagnostic reference levels (DRLs) in intraoral dental X-ray examination in Korea. MATERIALS AND METHODS One hundred two intraoral dental radiographic machines from all regions of South Korea were selected...
full textThe establishment of a diagnostic reference level for intra-oral dental radiography in Co. Wicklow.
The use of diagnostic reference levels (DRLs) is part of the optimisation process of radiation protection, in that it identifies practices that are in need of corrective action, resulting in dose reduction. Their use is provided for in Irish and European legislation. In this project, measurements were carried out at 42 of the 46 licensed intra-oral xray machines in Co. Wicklow using an Unfors M...
full textDiagnostic performance of dental students in identifying mandibular condyle fractures by panoramic radiography and the usefulness of reference images
PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic performance of dental students in detection of mandibular condyle fractures and the effectiveness of reference panoramic images. MATERIALS AND METHODS Forty-six undergraduates evaluated 25 panoramic radiographs for condylar fractures and the data were analyzed through receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis. After a mon...
full textDetermination of Diagnostic Reference Level in routine Computed radiography examination in north of Iran
Introduction: Digital radiography has a major role in nowadays healthcare system so radiation protection (justification and optimization) is important in this field. Many related organizations to protection suggested to establish national and regional diagnostic reference level for medical procedures. Reference levels are typically set at the 75th percentile of the dose distri...
